Position location capabilities using GPS technology are becoming increasingly important as the new revenue-generating products and services such as Location Based Services (LBS), logistics and road tolling are deployed. Applications encompass a broad range of markets, including wireless/telecom, automotive, military and space. In all cases, maximizing position location accuracy and availability is a key fundamental requirement.
GPS receiver manufacturers and manufacturers of chipsets and modules, for use in GPS enabled devices, have recognized the need for their products to undergo extensive operational testing in a semi-automated or fully automated series of tests during the manufacturing process.
This becomes particularly important when the receiver or mobile device is to be used in an application where safety-of-life is a factor, for example, E911 compliant devices. Other applications include mobile devices (cell phones, PDA's etc), vehicle tracking and safety and military applications, where the full and correct operation of each receiver must be verified in manufacturing before deployment.
