07/11/2012 - Spirent Communications Announces Wireless Connectivity Test System for Functional Device Testing

New Test Solution Offers Multi-radio Wireless Connectivity Test for Rapid Simultaneous Functional Testing of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM and NFC

Paignton, United Kingdom – (July 11, 2012) — Spirent Communications plc (LSE: SPT), the leading provider of navigation, positioning and wireless test solutions, today announces a new product to address functional testing of wireless devices on manufacturing lines and in service/repair centers. The Spirent GSS5300 has been developed for rapid simultaneous functional testing of up to 2 wireless-enabled devices with multiple RF interfaces, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM and NFC. Spirent's GSS5300 also operates with widely-used Spirent GNSS constellation simulators to test GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS technology.
Functional testing of a wireless device is a rapid test method for the manufacturing line, ensuring a device has been correctly assembled and will operate in real world conditions. Spirent’s GSS5300 provides repeatable testing against full signaling conditions, with the ability to determine RF transmitter/receiver operation. By following a parallel testing approach, customers can test multi-radio devices in shorter times, greatly improving manufacturing line throughput.

"We expect the GSS5300 system to be deployed on the manufacturing lines of the future to support the ever growing complexity of wireless devices," commented John Pottle, marketing director at Spirent's positioning technology line of business. "Spirent's GSS5300 provides a new approach, replacing the existing parametric method that is becoming over-complex, slow and outdated for testing wireless connectivity technologies."

Spirent's GSS5300 multi-radio platform can be used with Spirent's new GSS6300M multi-GNSS simulator, which enables testing of fundamental GNSS receiver functionality including time to first fix, sensitivity and accuracy on the manufacturing line.
