09/20/2012 - New Spirent Solution Improves Test Lab Asset Management and Productivity for Operators and Equipment Vendors

Spirent iTest Lab Optimizer Enhances Test Resource Utilization and Time-to-Test

Sunnyvale, California – (September 20, 2012) — Spirent Communications, a leader in network testing, services and devices, today announced the introduction of Spirent iTest Lab Optimizer, a powerful and intelligent lab management solution. A part of the Spirent iTest Team Server platform, the iTest Lab Optimizer is a comprehensive solution that enables networks operators and network equipment vendors improve their test lab equipment utilization, productivity and test cycle time.

The pace of product and technology development in the communications networking industry is resulting in test labs becoming highly complex, isolated hubs with infinite combinations of heterogeneous software and hardware products, requiring experts and specialists to correctly configure test beds. Lab managers and directors face a number of challenges, such as the ability to keep track of inventory and determine usage rates, to ensure full utilization of resources, especially in multi-location lab environments, and to performance multiple tests with a minimum of manual intervention.

Spirent iTest Lab Optimizer can significantly improve test inventory management by increasing visibility into resource utilization and scheduled executions. By giving lab managers and test engineers the ability to pool resources from multiple lab sites across the globe, the iTest Lab Optimizer helps to increase the overall productivity of test teams. In addition, the solution helps to significantly reduce time to test, by allowing test engineers to pre-set different network and device configurations for several sequential test runs with no manual intervention.

Spirent iTest Lab Optimizer leverages MRV Optical Communications Systems' physical layer switch, the Media Cross Connect™, to drive productivity across the lab and reduce test cycle time. "The Media Cross Connect in combination with the Spirent iTest Lab Optimizer allows customers to share lab equipment across test teams worldwide for maximum device utilization without compromising quality-of-service or responsiveness," said Tom Coburn, product line manager at MRV. "Together MRV and Spirent are helping test engineers to not only get the most out of their capital investments, but to also be more efficient and productive in the lab."

"As the industry's most comprehensive lab management solution, the iTest Lab Optimizer provides customers with a single point of control to better manage and monitor the ROI of their test equipment," said Angus Robertson, director of Business Development at Spirent Communications. "For existing iTest Enterprise customers, the new Lab Optimizer integrates with the topology view, providing real-time access to lab assets. Furthermore, iTest Lab Optimizer provides market-leading extensibility for customers to easily tailor asset management to their lab environment."

Spirent iTest Lab Optimizer is designed to extend the benefits of Infrastructure Test Optimization (ITO). ITO is a set of test practices deployed to ensure infrastructures meet a defined quality of service and quality of experience required to deliver strategic business objectives.
