05/07/2013 - Network Test Selects Spirent for Testing Reliability and Scale of HP Enterprise Fabric Solutions

Spirent TestCenter used to validate 128 ports of 40G Ethernet, demonstrating industry-leading scale and low-latency data center performance

Sunnyvale, California — (May 7, 2013) — Spirent Communications, a global leader in network, devices and services testing solutions, today announced that independent testing lab Network Test used Spirent TestCenter to verify the performance of the HP FlexFabric data center portfolio.

Key highlights of the test:

Network Test used Spirent TestCenter to verify line-rate performance of 128 40GbE ports on the HP FlexFabric 12910, making this one of the industry's largest public 40G Ethernet test. In addition, the test lab validated performance and scale of 64-ports of 40 GbE on the HP FlexFabric 11908, supporting more than 128,000 hosts such as virtual machines and servers.

The test demonstrated the high-performance routing capability of HP FlexFabric 12910 and 11908-V, setting a new benchmark by highlighting control-plane scalability of up to 255,000 networks. The HP 12910 and 11908-V were also validated with new networking standards such as Transparent Interconnection of Lots of Links (TRILL) that enables enterprises to build large layer-2 network fabrics.

Network Test also verified the HP HSR6808 router's ability to deliver the scalability and reliability to help enterprises deploy public and private cloud services to hundreds of thousands of users without compromise.

Executive quotes:

"Spirent's test instruments enabled us to validate HP's FlexFabric data center switches at the scale demanded by today's data centers," said David Newman, founder of Network Test. "Spirent TestCenter's ability to support high-density testing, both on the control and data planes, and to deliver the nanosecond precision needed to measure latency and performance at 10GbE and 40GbE rates, were critical to this test."

"These public tests demonstrate why the industry looks to Spirent for test solutions to address the performance and scalability challenges facing data center operators," said Aswath Mohan, director of product marketing at Spirent Communications "With test methodologies that stress not only embedded technologies but also cutting-edge innovations under development, Spirent offers the most advanced and complete data center testing solutions available anywhere."

"Enterprises are struggling with the complexity of current data network fabric designs to support cloud and virtualized workloads," said Kash Shaikh, senior director of product and technical marketing, Networking, HP. "HP's tested and validated FlexFabric solutions provide clients simplicity, scalability and automation to deliver new services and applications across the data center."
